NEP+ Engages Parliament’s Health and Social Development Standing Committee to Strengthen HIV Program Sustainability

NEP+ (National Network of People Living with HIV) convened a high-level advocacy and awareness-raising forum with the Health, Social Development, Culture, and Sports Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives. The forum focused on ensuring the long-term sustainability of HIV services in Ethiopia and reinforcing shared responsibility among national stakeholders.

Held on May 31, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, the event brought together members of parliament, civil society leaders, and representatives of the HIV community. Discussions centered on sustaining HIV prevention, care, and treatment services and addressing challenges related to financing, coordination, and service continuity.

During the opening remarks, participants highlighted that maintaining the progress of Ethiopia’s HIV response requires collective commitment and action. The forum reaffirmed the government’s and partners’ dedication to strengthening policy support, improving resource mobilization, and ensuring uninterrupted HIV services nationwide.

Key objectives of the forum included:

  • Advocating for sustained political and financial commitment

  • Raising awareness on the importance of long-term HIV service continuity

  • Identifying existing gaps in service delivery and program sustainability

  • Strengthening collaboration with policymakers for durable solutions

NEP+ expressed appreciation to the Standing Committee for its continued support and reiterated its readiness to work together to safeguard the achievements made in the HIV response and to sustain high-quality services for people living with and affected by HIV.
